Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed25 November 2007 | No Comments | Archive/Search
Two weeks ago I was home and flipping channels when I stumbled across the first Scooby Doo movie, and I ended up watching the last hour of it. I had seen it before, but was rather bored, and I found the humor entertaining. I ended up taping the sequel which happened to come on right after the first one, and we watched it last night. Both the first Scooby Doo movie and this one were pretty cute, and are totally family friendly and safe for most kids. The special effects are decent, but nothing too spectacular. Overall the story for the second one was a bit better than the first one, and actually incorporated many monsters and scenes straight from the original cartoon. I still question the choice of actors for the characters of Fred and Daphne though. Freddie Prinze Jr. did an okay job as Fred, and although I am not exactly sure who would have made a better Fred, I am sure there is someone out there who could fit the bill. Choosing Sarah Michelle Gellar for Daphne was just wrong though. Period. The actors who play Velma and Shaggy were spot on, thankfully. All in all though, I think this movie did an outstanding job of taking a beloved cartoon and transferring it to live action. The voices and costumes were great, and although some scenes were a bit over the top and exaggerated (perhaps that’s the point), I thought it did a great job of capturing the essence of the cartoon. There were even a few interesting cameos in the film: Alicia Silverstone, Peter Boyle, Seth Green. So, if you liked the original cartoon, you will probably like this movie. So check it out, even if only to see the guy who plays Shaggy (brilliantly) and the CGI Scooby. |
