Okay, so I had ten blissful days off work during the holidays, and what did I do with it? Other than shop and host the neighbors for a hot oil fondue on Boxing Day and the in-laws for three days between Christmas and New Years? Why…I watched MOVIES! *claps wildly*
I actually got to see quite a few that I had wanted to. I count the movie I TRIED to watch last night in the list even though it really wasn’t DURING the holidays. Here is what I got to see:
Black Christmas – went and saw this ON Christmas Day at the movie house. I was totally surprised at how many people were in the theatre! It was…okay…as far as campy sorority holiday horror movies go. It was perfect for Christmas Day since we didn’t really have anything planned.
Jim Carey’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas - I love, love, love this movie. We have the DVD and I like to watch it every year. We also popped in the original cartoon version and watched it, too!
A Christmas Carol – Patrick Stewart’s made for TV version is really good. I like many different version of this holiday classic, but it came on TV, so I fired up the DVR and we taped it to watch later.
A Charlie Brown Christmas - Hubby loves this TV cartoon. We have the VHS tape someplace, but ended up downloading it to watch it since we don’t even use a VCR anymore LOL.
Jackass Number Two – Oh what can I say about Johnny Knoxville and his band of crazy friends? I didn’t have an overly strong desire to see this movie, but it was available, so we did. It made me laugh, and a few times made my mouth hang open in shock, but if you are into stupid guys doing stupid stuff, you might like it.
Pulse - I can say that this movie was disappointing. I mean..anything dealing with TECHNOLOGY as the scary force in the film is set up for failure. Hubby and I are too technically minded and grounded in reality to fall for most of what this film tried to set up for us. The funniest line in the movie though was when the hero and heroine are talking about this horrible computer and she tells him to just format that hard drive. And with total and sincere effort he exclaims, “I can’t! It won’t let me!” Yeah – the hard drive won’t LET him format it. Uh huh. I can format ANY hard drive with a hammer if need be. Sheesh.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre – The Beginning – Not bad. I am a horror movie buff, so I have seen a lot of blood and guts and gore…including all the other Texas Chainsaw movies ever made. This one…well…it was pretty okay. I liked having some background to the story, even if it is all fiction at that point.
Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest – I loved the first one. I loved the second one, too. Of course just having Johnny Depp in it is enough to make me love it, but I really did enjoy this film a lot! I think Depp does an outstanding job as Captain Jack Sparrow. I did find many of his mannerisms to be similar to Willy Wonka, but that just could be Depp shining through in both roles. *shrug* Two thumbs up for sure!
A Scanner Darkly - We actually watched this movie this past weekend. It was really pretty good. I loved all the main actors in it, and thought the whole cartoon feel to it to be really cool. The concept of the movie was rather deep and it had a lot of plot twists, but I really liked it. And it was good to see Winona Ryder in something again.
Last but not least – Borat – I tried to watch it. I really did. Hubby was much more interested in seeing this than me, but I finally gave in and said we could see it. The movie is like maybe an hour and a half long and I didn’t make it past the first 30 minutes. I just don’t get this kind of humor. It reminded me of that old Tom Green show when he was on MTV. I don’t think it is funny to prey on innocent bystanders to get laughs. And the constant and continual sexual and blatant racial jokes were just annoying. I admit I laughed once or twice at the sheer stupidity of it, but I honestly could care less if I ever go back and see the rest of this film.
So yeah…that is my movie catch up for the year. Just thought I would share!
